Why Is Attending Sunday School So Important?

Why Is Attending Sunday School So Important?

Sunday School has been a part of church culture for years. Unfortunately, its importance has been severely diminished and underestimated. Some people do not believe that Sunday School is important while others believe that Sunday School is only for children. This is seen as adults drop children off at church instead of going inside with them. But why is Sunday School important?

1. Sunday School is the place where you really learn how to dig in the Word. Have you ever heard your Pastor say something or reference a passage of scripture that left you scratching your head in wonder? You can’t stand up in the service to ask him to clarify. After the service, you may not have the chance to ask. So how do you get your question answered? Go to Sunday School! Sunday School is the place where you can dialog and interact with others about the scriptures. Since the class is usually small, it is a safe place to ask questions, express doubts and get clarification on things that confuse you.

2. Engage in real conversations about God and His Word while making friends and establishing bonds of love and fellowship. Since Sunday School classes are typically small (less than 25 people), it is the perfect environment to engage in real conversation about the Word. By engaging in dialog with other members of the class, listening to their questions and hearing the answers, you learn that you are not alone in your struggles in understanding the Word and living out your faith in a world that is increasingly hostile to Christians. As you recognize and embrace that common bond, you develop friendships that will last a lifetime. Those friendships will also help keep you accountable and connected to the Body of Christ, especially during times of storm and crisis in your life.

These are just two reasons for believers to be involved in Sunday School. We will explore more reasons in our next post.

until He comes,

I have seen so much growth from the members that attend Sunday school and I have seen them build their confidence in speaking the Word of God boldly. They have the opportunity to truly discuss and break the Word of God down and let it marinate within and then learn how to apply the preached Word from Pastor into their daily lives. Sunday school is a perfect and safe environment that is not intimidating to them and it allows them to feel free to seek answers to questions they may have been afraid to ask or was just unclear how to interpret and apply it to themselves. Sunday school is the next best thing to Prayer and Bible Study! We as Christians have to “Stay Ready to Keep from Getting Ready” and Sunday School is a great place to start getting ready! Love and Blessings from a Child of God!

I heard and enjoyed part of a message by Pastor Draper on KSLR while driving. (I tuned in after the program started) I have been without a church home for sometime, and I really liked the authority with which Pastor Draper presented his message. I also appreciated the relevace of what he had to say. I am looking for a church that preaches and BELIEVES the authority of God’s word, in the written form and in the believer’s mouth. I am looking for a praying, fasting church that cries out to God for the world. I am also looking for a spirit filled, charismatic body. I noticed online one internet entry refers to Maranatha as a “black church”. I am white, but have a diverse set of friends, in every color. Would Maranatha be a good fit for me regarding the above characteristics?

Speaking of sound doctrine! We are studying the book of James and if you want to learn how to “NOT” be just listeners of God’s Word but “BE” doers of His Word, come on out to the Maranatha Bible Church Sunday School hour! James 1:12 says 12 Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. My question to you is “Do you Love Him”? I hope to see you at Sunday School! Love and Blessings!
